How it works
How Barak Kavach will work
Four steps, from the moment something goes wrong to the moment help arrives — with a trained human, not an algorithm, deciding what is serious.
Step 01
Signal
A person shares what is happening and where, only if safe.
Nothing is required beyond a category and a location. If speaking or typing is unsafe, a held SOS sends the essentials on its own.
Step 02
Review
A human moderator checks urgency and routes the request.
Duplicates are merged, the report is translated if needed, and a trained person — not an algorithm — decides how serious it is.
Step 03
Coordinate
Trusted contacts, verified supporters, and official services are connected responsibly.
Only the people who need to know are told, only what they need to know. Official services remain the primary responders.
Step 04
Follow up
The request is marked received, assigned, reached, or closed.
The person who signalled can see the status of their own request, so help never feels like it disappeared into silence.
Lives are saved by whoever is nearest.
Not by whoever is fastest to arrive from somewhere else. Barak Kavach exists to reach the person already standing there.

Joy has spent the last several years building creative and business ventures out of Silchar — proof that serious work can be done from Barak Valley, for Barak Valley. Barak Kavach is not a business. It is unpaid, and it will stay that way.
“The valley I grew up in still learns about most emergencies too late. Women who could have been supported, accidents that could have had faster help, fires and floods where nobody knew who to call first. This is my attempt to close that gap — not from Delhi or Bangalore, but from here, with the people who live here.”

Barak Kavach is unpaid work, from the founders down. Nobody draws a wage from donations — every rupee goes into running the platform, verifying volunteers, and training them. If you join, you are joining a society effort, not a job.

No. The app is in development and the network is being built now. It goes live on Maha Navami, Monday 19 October 2026. Everything on this page describes what your donation is building, not something that already exists.
Where does my money actually go?
Into the platform, volunteer verification and training, emergency readiness, and local awareness — in the proportions shown above. Nobody draws a salary from donations, including the founders. Monthly expense reports will be published once the pilot begins.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Not today. Barak Kavach does not currently claim any tax exemption, because the registration that would allow it is not complete. If eligibility is granted, it will be published here with the registration number — and not a day before.
How do I know the money is safe?
Donations open only after the organization is registered and a verified account exists — that order is not negotiable. Payments are handled by Razorpay and UPI directly; the money never sits with an individual.
Does this replace calling 112 or 108?
Never. Barak Kavach is a coordination network that sits alongside official services and points you to them first. In immediate danger, call 112. Every screen in the app does the same.
Can I help without giving money?
Yes, and it matters just as much. Volunteer roles exist both on the ground in the valley and remotely from anywhere in the world — verification calls, translation, design, outreach. Sharing this page with your family group is genuinely useful too.
